The Andalusian Health Service and Dedalus, based in Malaga TechPark, promote a telemonitoring and telecare project for chronic patients

  • This telemonitoring and telecare system for patients aims to facilitate the therapeutic monitoring of people with chronic diseases in Andalusia, providing valuable data and information for early action in the event of decompensation or worsening of the pathology.
  • The objective is to reduce hospital admissions and emergency room visits for chronic patients, as well as to improve the quality of life of chronic patients and their families by digitalising processes.

Dedalus, a leading company in digital health and diagnostic solutions in Europe, based in Malaga TechPark, and the Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS) (in English, Andalusian Health Service) have launched a telecare and telemonitoring project through a technological solution for proactive monitoring of chronic patients at home, thus providing healthcare professionals with valuable data and information so that they can act quickly and effectively in the event of decompensation and worsening of various chronic diseases.

Although the corporate solution has a global vocation, and can be used for the entire range of chronic diseases, the scope of the project will focus on a group of more than 125,000 patients – representing more than 35% of cases of elderly people with multiple comorbidities – with a high medical complexity due to heart failure and COPD problems, many of whom also have diabetes or renal insufficiency as concomitant diseases. In this way, the aim is to minimize hospital admissions and emergency room visits for chronic patients, improving their quality of life, as well as that of their relatives, through the digitalisation of processes.

The development of this technological solution includes the implementation of a centralised system for the proactive follow-up of chronic patients, which makes it possible to monitor patient activity and coordinate the actions of the healthcare professionals involved through the implementation of two types of chronic patient care programmes: telecare and telemonitoring.

This is an integral solution, integrated with the rest of the corporate technological applications of the Servicio Andaluz de Salud and with the logistics management derived from the telemonitoring programme, in which patients will be provided with a “Telemonitoring Kit”, with the medical devices necessary for the collection of useful information for their monitoring, together with the necessary training for its use by both patients and their environment.

With this project, Dedalus will help in the digital transformation of the SAS, incorporating new digital channels in the provision of care that provide greater efficiency, accessibility and quality in the monitoring of chronic patients, based on their own characteristics, and allowing an approach towards a more efficient and sustainable treatment model.

Dedalus, together with Exxita Be Circular, a leading technology company in the integral and intelligent management of deployment, logistics and monitoring processes, have been awarded this project tendered by Red.es for the development and deployment of this corporate solution for the proactive monitoring of chronic patients in the Sistema Sanitario Publico de Andalucia (SSPA) (in English, Andalusian Public Health System), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund..

“At Dedalus we have a vision of a digitally enabled health ecosystem that drives collaboration between all stakeholders along the continuum of care to improve health outcomes for every citizen,” says Marisa Felipe, Managing Director of Dedalus Iberia, “so we are extremely proud to work with the Servicio Andaluz de Salud y Redes (Andalusian Health Service and Networks) in this project and contribute with our experience and technological solutions in the development and implementation of this corporate solution for proactive monitoring of patients with chronic diseases that aims to improve accessibility, efficiency and proactivity in the provision of healthcare services, providing healthcare professionals with digital tools that seek to improve the experience and quality of life of patients and their families”, adds Marisa Felipe..
