- After the presentation of the cooperation agreement signed by both institutions, an Aerospace Meeting organized by Observatory Digital Eye by Málaga TechPark and the University of Málaga was held
The University of Málaga and the Cluster Andalucía Aerospace have both signed a scientific-technical cooperation agreement, aimed at promoting actions linked to the aeronautic and aerospace sector.
The conference in which the content of this agreement was announced took place in the Green Lemon building of Malaga Tech Park and featured presentations by, the Vice-Rector for Technology Transfer, Business and Digital Transformation, Enrique Márquez; the Deputy Vice-Rector for Innovation and Technology Transfer, Sergio Fortes; the General Director of Andalucía Aerospace, the Andalusian Aerospace and Defence Business Cluster, Juan Román Gallego, and the President of the Cluster, Antonio Gómez-Guillamón.
The agreement establishes the objective of promoting research, transfer, dissemination and training activities in areas of common interest. In addition to scientific cooperation, it also lays the foundations for facilitating the development of joint projects and activities in the area of innovation applied to business and the development of entrepreneurship in the aerospace sector.
Enrique Márquez explained that the purpose of this meeting, which is the result of the ongoing collaboration between the University of Málaga, Málaga Tech Park (MTP) and the MTP Aerospace Systems Cluster, “is to showcase the capabilities of UMA’s research groups in the aerospace sector and to create opportunities for new collaborations with companies in this field”.
Boosting innovation
Juan Román emphasized the importance of collaborating with universities, “since we want to boost innovation and make it accessible to SMEs in the sector.” The general director of Andalucía Aerospace, which brings together 100 companies in Andalusia, also highlighted the potential of creating consortia made up of companies of various sizes and universities to apply for R&D projects, both national and European.
The Green Lemon event, in addition to the presence of the Cluster companies, MTP and UMA researchers, included a round table with representatives of the Spanish Aerospace Technology Platform (PAE) and Andalucía Aerospace – Andalusian Aerospace Business Cluster.
Following the explanation of the details regarding UMA’s membership in the Andalucía Aerospace Cluster, Vice-Rector Enrique Márquez; Andalucía Aerospace President, AERTEC Solutions CEO and co-founder, Antonio Gómez-Guillamón; and Málaga TechPark’s Director of Business Development and Investment Attraction, Lourdes Cruz, welcomed attendees to the ‘Aerospace Forum’ organized by the Digital Eye Observatory, an initiative by UMA and Málaga TechPark.
The Deputy Vice-Rector of Technology Transfer, Sergio Fortes, discussed the R&D+I capabilities in Aerospace at the University of Malaga and the connection with companies.
This was followed by a round table that discussed all aspects related to the aerospace sector in Malaga through collaboration and knowledge transfer. Participants included the Secretary-General of the Spanish Aerospace Technology Platform (PAE), Andrés Catalán, the General Director of the Andalusian Aerospace Business Cluster, Andalucía Aerospace, Juan Román; and the Deputy Vice-Rector, Sergio Fortes.
During this round table, the topics discussed were university-industry transfer in the sector, the most significant technological challenges and opportunities in this segment, and key catalytic elements.
Finally, the Vice-Rector for Technology Transfer, Business and Digital Transformation of the UMA, Enrique Márquez, explained everything related to the mechanisms and opportunities for collaboration.
The goal of this meeting, a result of the ongoing collaboration between the University of Malaga, Málaga TechPark, and the Aerospace Systems Cluster of the park, is to showcase the research capabilities of the University of Malaga in the aerospace sector and to create opportunities for new collaborations with companies in the industry.
About the Málaga TechPark´s Aerospace Systems Cluster
The Aerospace Systems Cluster at Málaga TechPark was established in 2013 with the aim of facilitating a collaborative environment for the generation of business and opportunities in the aerospace sector.
It is currently made up of 26 companies with around 2,500 professionals working in Malaga TechPark for the aerospace industry. This group of companies has established itself as one of the leading clusters in the park and specializes in digital systems and technologies such as transportation, defense, airports, software development, telecommunications, electronics, business intelligence, digital solutions, systems integration, RPAs/UAVs, avionics, and aerospace engineering and consulting.
The Cluster is committed to the “new space,” that focuses on satellite technologies, onboard systems, cloud solutions, downstream applications, artificial intelligence, IoT, connectivity, robotics, machine learning, automation, cybersecurity, cognitive technologies, blockchain, big data, analytics, and 5G technologies.

The Aerospace Systems Cluster at Málaga TechPark also includes the University of Malaga, which is a member of the Spanish Aerospace Platform and contributes the work of significant research groups involved in R&D projects for the aerospace industry.
