The technopolis participates in two virtual activities aimed at promoting STEM vocations in girls and young women and promoting the visibility of the professionals who work in these areas.
Once again, Málaga TechPark joins the celebration of the Day of Women and Girls in Science by participating in different virtual activities that help promote women’s access, empowerment and participation in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), initiatives that are necessary due to the low presence and relevance of women in these fields.
The first initiative that has had the participation of Málaga TechPark has been the round table “Science and Technology do not have gender” to motivate and awaken the interest of young women in these matters. Organized by the Principia Science Center, the activity has been attended by groups of students from primary, secondary and high school schools in Malaga, IES Mª Victoria Atencia, CEIP Flor de Azahar, IES Fuengirola Nº 1 and IES Torre del Meadow.
The table has been formed by Natalia Pérez, Deputy Director of the Technology Diffusion Area, Silvana Tapia Paniagua, PhD of Microbiology at the University of Malaga (UMA), Nuria Iglesias, Head of Innovation, Talent and Culture at Accenture Spain and Mª Carmen Fernández Gago, professor of Applied Mathematics and member of the NICS (Network Information and Computers Security) research group at UMA. These women have shared their experiences as professionals whose careers are developed in the world of science, mathematics and technology.
Natalia Pérez has underlined the importance of promoting STEM vocations among girls so as not to be left out of the labor market, since the careers related to these subjects are the jobs of the future. In this sense, the park collaborates with the University of Malaga by developing activities for young women to direct their professional careers to the technology sector.
In the afternoon, the online event organized by the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE) was held through the Disruptive platform chaired by Málaga TechPark. 13 initiatives focused on the promotion of female STEM talent have participated in the meeting: Science and Technology in Women (APTE), Women in Málaga TechPark, Fem Talent, AMIT – MIT, W4STEAM, Inspiring Girls, Talent Woman, Initiative 11F , STEM Talent Girl (ASTI Foundation), STEM For Girls UC3M, Women Space (Extremadura), Andalusia STEM and Mujeres en Ciencia y Tecnología Red de Parques Científicos y Tecnológicos de Euskadi.
