A debate on technological tourism takes center stage at the II ‘Malgarve Forum’

This week a significant meeting took place in Málaga, ‘Malgarve Innovation Forum’ involving the University of Málaga, the University of Algarve, Málaga TechPark, and various companies within the tourism sector and research groups.

The objective of the ‘Malgarve Innovation Network’ is to foster cooperation between University of Málaga, University of Algarve and Málaga TechPark by designing and implementing innovative strategies, programs, and projects. This agreement aims to facilitate joint activities among the three institutions, particularly in the areas of research, development, innovation, dissemination, and cooperation in Art and Culture, as well as Training.On this occasion, the event has focused on the field of technological tourism.

Thefirst day of the meeting included a comprehensive tour of Málaga TechPark and a presentation of the collaboration agreement and the innovation ecosystems of Málaga TechPark and the University of Málaga.

Furthermore, the European projects ‘DIBEST’ and ‘Tourism 4.0’ were presented during the event capturing the attention of attendees who expressed keen interest in these initiatives.

Digital Innovation for Blue Enterprises & Social Tourism (DIBEST) aims to support tourism microenterprises in the Atlantic coastal region by adopting digital innovations. This enables them to increase their competitiveness, market access, and environmental sustainability. The project focuses on family-run and multigenerational businesses, aiming to improve the economy and society of the peripheral region.

The Tourism 4.0 project provides capacity building, technology transfer, support and assistance programme for tourism SMEs to help them adopt and leverage emerging digital technologies to improve their productivity, sustainability and business performance.

On the second day of the meeting, a series of activities took place, including a visit to the Faculty of Tourism and the Andalusian Institute of Tourism Research and Innovation (IATUR). In addition, research groups from the University of Malaga and the University of Algarve were introduced, along with presentations on the projects they are currently working on. Finally, networking sessions were organized to facilitate interaction and collaboration among participants.

In conclusion, the event focused on the dynamic field of technology tourism, offering attendees valuable insights, engaging activities, and networking opportunities. The gathering facilitated collaboration and knowledge sharing, providing a glimpse into the future of technology in the tourism sector.
