BIC Euronova’s innovative companies have a turnover of more than 17 million and generate 241 jobs in 2023

  • The innovative business incubator BIC Euronova, with more than 30 years of activity as a pioneering European Business and Innovation Centre in Málaga, presents its 2023 balance sheet with very positive data.
  • BIC Euronova welcomes 17 new innovative companies in 2023, hosting a total of 92 companies; 39 of them in the physical incubator, 48 in the virtual incubator and 5 in the coworking space.

 

The innovative companies housed in the European Business and Innovation Centre (BIC Euronova) of Málaga, located in the Technology Park of Andalusia – Málaga Tech Park, generated a total of 241 jobs and an aggregate turnover of more than 17 million euros in 2023.

In 2023 BIC Euronova selected and welcomed 17 new innovative companies to its centre, with a total of 39 companies housed in its facilities over the past year; 8 of them with foreign capital, to which must be added another 48 housed in its virtual incubator and 5 in the Coworking space. Thus, last year the average occupancy rate of BIC Euronova reached 90%.

Carlos García, the regional delegate of Economy, Finance, European Funds and Industry, Energy and Mines in Málaga of the Junta de Andalucía, who is also president of BIC Euronova, has highlighted the importance of supporting startups and innovative companies in the development of their ideas, accompanying them until they become successful businesses. In this sense, he highlighted the work carried out by BIC Euronova, as the European Business and Innovation Centre of Málaga, with the consequent contribution to the economic and social growth of the region.

With these figures, BIC Euronova consolidates its position as an incubator of innovative companies and a pioneer in Málaga in supporting the creation, incubation, consolidation and internationalisation of innovative companies. In fact, 25% of the companies in the Andalusia Technology Park are or have been at BIC Euronova, a percentage that highlights the high survival rate of the companies that have been incubated at BIC Euronova, which is around 80%.

Given BIC Euronova’s international vocation, in 2023 it continued its strong commitment to the internationalisation of companies, thanks to the alliance it maintains with the European BIC Network (EBN), to which it belongs, and the various connections it has in other continents. In fact, it has a technical office in China to provide business services and attract investors. Likewise, 5 companies supported by BIC Euronova participated in international projects and another 4 were supported in softlanding services. BIC Euronova also participated in various international forums on business innovation, received various foreign delegations interested in its know-how and organised around thirty events to promote networking and synergies in its ecosystem of innovative companies.

In 2023, BIC Euronova was also committed to smart cities, circular economy, digital wellbeing and social innovation through the various projects in which it participated as a partner. Hence the implementation of different pilots in Málaga, Genoa and Jordan Valley, in addition to the execution of international projects in Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Italy, France, Poland, Ireland, Denmark, Slovenia, Finland and Spain.

Among other data from last year, it is worth highlighting that around 100 entrepreneurs were advised by BIC Euronova, 10 companies were supported by BIC Euronova in attracting funding, 38 companies were mentored by its team of consultants, 16 consultancy contracts were executed and 5 open innovation services were provided.

In 2023 BIC Euronova launched the “Málaga Startup Network” initiative, as a collaborative network to strengthen and enhance the entrepreneurship and business innovation ecosystem in Málaga.  In addition, BIC Euronova continued to host the headquarters of ANCES, the National Association of Spanish CEEIs/BICs, as BIC Euronova’s CEO, Álvaro Simón de Blas, was re-elected in 2023 as its President for a further two years.  Through ANCES, BIC Euronova awarded last year the EIBT (Innovative Technology-Based Company) brand to the Málaga companies Onversed, Ynsat and mSurgery.

On the other hand, last year BIC Euronova carried out 9 continuous improvement projects in its facilities, focusing on sustainability and energy saving.

The sectors in which the companies housed at BIC Euronova operate are mainly Engineering, Industry 4.0, photovoltaics, cybersecurity, e-health, aerospace, social innovation, new materials, design and training, among others. The companies remain incubated for an average period of 2.75 years and have a survival rate of around 80%.
