Carolina España takes over the Presidency of Málaga TechPark

Málaga TechPark held its General Shareholders’ Meeting and Board of Directors today to appoint the new members of the Board of Directors. Carolina España, Minister of Economy, Finance and European Funds of the Regional Government of Andalusia, has been appointed as President of the company, and Mario Muñoz-Atanet Sánchez, Deputy Minister of Development, Territorial Development and Housing of the Regional Government, as representative of the AVRA Agency, and Miguel Ángel Figueroa Teva, Director General of the IDEA Agency, as representative of the AVRA Agency, as new Board members.

As the new president of the Park, España has set as her objectives to consolidate and strengthen the relations of the companies and entities of the Park with their environment ‘as a direct cause of the important role that Málaga TechPark represents for the Andalusian economy in terms of production, GDP and job creation,’ as well as to reinforce the change in the structure of the Park’s activity towards activities with a greater impact on the rest of the sectors of the regional economy.

The impact of Málaga TechPark (30 years)
Since its official inauguration in 1992, the Parque Tecnológico de Andalucía (PTA), now called Málaga TechPark, has not stopped growing in response to the needs of the surrounding companies that decided to locate there, as well as new ones that were created within its boundaries.

A socio-economic analysis of the PTA is being carried out to measure the study of the Park’s impact from 1992 to 2021, which shows that the total impact of production amounted to 5,124.58 million euros in 2021, i.e. an indirect impact of 2,796 million euros in addition to the 2,324 million euros of turnover recorded in the Park in that year. This total impact on production for that year represented 1.75% of the total Andalusian production.

In the province of Málaga, the impact is even greater. In terms of GDP, the contribution to the territorial total in the case of the province of Málaga is 8.65% of the total and in terms of the city of Málaga, it amounts to 21.87%.

In terms of jobs generated, the total employment impact of the Málaga Tech Park in 2021 was 57,625 jobs, which in terms of the Andalusian total was 1.81% of the regional total.

In terms of the employment variable, the contribution to the territorial total of the province is 9.14% of the total. In terms of the city of Málaga, the impact reaches 22.11% of local employment.

Concerning to 2022, it was announced at today’s meeting that 66 companies had set up in Málaga TechPark by the end of October, including Aire Networks, Capgemini, EY Global Delivery Services Center, Grupo Echevarne, Sogeti, EIS Group and Quantexa.

Continuous growth

With 624 companies, 22,238 workers and a total turnover of 2,394.98 million euros, the Park, in its continuous process of expansion, has launched the tender for the construction of a building for the installation of companies in the R&D15-I+D16 plots of the extension of Málaga TechPark. The tender, for which a total of three bids have been received, is in the final stages for its award, carried out through an open procedure, with a tender budget of 6,864,286.89 euros (VAT excluded) and a completion period of 16 months.
