The ES5 project, led by Ericsson, has been presented in a panel organized by the Swedish multinational during the 5G Forum, where three of the companies collaborating in the project, Vodafone, Dekra and Endesa have participated with Málaga TechPark,
The Swedish multinational Ericsson has been in charge of one of the panels of the 5G FORUM 2021 this Tuesday. The table, moderated by its R&D Center Director in Malaga, Juan Manuel Melero, has counted with the participation of Felipe Romera, CEO of Málaga TechPark; Rafael Sánchez, CEO of Endesa in Andalusia; Fernando E. Hardasmal, Executive Vice President of the Product Testing Services Division of Dekra; and Carlos Becker, Director of Large Customers and Public Administration at Vodafone. The five experts discussed the role and function that Artificial Intelligence will play in the Fifth-Generation Mobile communications system.
At the meeting, Manuel Melero highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence as a “fundamental and inherent element of 5G networks” and very important for the use cases that will soon materialize. Associated with this point, the director of the R&D Center in Malaga presented the project ‘ES5: An open 5G Innovation Platform in Malaga TechPark’, promoted by Ericsson with Vodafone, Malaga TechPark, the University of Malaga and other companies in the technopolis, including Dekra:
In the words of the executive, this is an initiative for the “implementation of an experimental 5G network in Andalusia that becomes an open innovation environment to encourage the development of new use cases in verticals that are considered strategic within the local ecosystem” in the region, such as the connected vehicle, ‘smart cities’, ‘iHealth’ or aeronautics. He referred to it as an ‘open environment’ because companies interested in participating can do so under the supervision and management of Málaga TechPark.
For his part, Felipe Romera expressed his wish that this 5G infrastructure will favor the progress of relations with the University and between the different companies and projects that develop this technology. In this sense, he explained the origin of the innovation center Ricardo Valle Institute of Innovation (InnovaIRV), promoted by the Málaga TechPark Execs club, as a node for the development of large digital technology projects, such as 5G, among the companies of this ecosystem, and for the transfer of knowledge between the university and the business world. A technology center in constitution with more than 30 international and national companies working on related technology areas.
ES5: An open 5G Innovation Platform in Málaga TechPark’.
The project ‘ES5: An open 5G Innovation Platform in Málaga TechPark’ is presented as a research and development complex to facilitate the collective development of 5G technologies. The aim of this initiative is to create and provide the Malaga TechPark and InnovaIRV ecosystem with an open 5G innovation platform of reference in Europe, which is structured around a 5G network open to experimentation and serves as a basis for effective collaboration between companies and entities, so that cutting-edge technology around 5G is developed in this country.
Through this platform, it will be possible to facilitate access to this technology so that companies can develop, prototype, test and exhibit new products and services around cellular IoT. In addition, the initiative will enable the creation of new opportunities, specialized jobs and the introduction of competitive solutions in the market.
At the same time, this project has the mission to channel funding to selected innovation projects, and drive the growth of the entire innovation ecosystem, connecting all stakeholders, including innovators, potential customers and investors.
