  • In this initial meeting, both ecosystems and potential collaboration models between the two parties were presented

The Port of Málaga and Málaga TechPark have held the first session of their strategic alliance ‘Innovación Conectada’ (Connected Innovation) at the port’s facilities, an event attended by the President of the Port Authority, Carlos Rubio, and the Director of Málaga TechPark, Felipe Romera.

Carlos Rubio, President of the Port Authority, underlined ‘the effort of both entities to connect businesses and promote projects that could be very positive for our work environment.’

On another note, Felipe Romera, Director of Málaga TechPark, briefly went over the key pillars of the park, such as Innova IRV, the Málaga TechPark Execs Club, entrepreneurship, and its collaboration with the University. He also highlighted the importance of this initiative: ‘The park, besides being a physical space, is a mood and a space of collaborative knowledge. That’s why this initiative launched by the port and the park is so important.’

The first part of the session consisted of a presentation of the park’s ecosystem and companies, led by the Director of the park along with the President of the Málaga TechPark Execs Club, Antonio Gómez-Guillamón, who is also the CEO of Aertec, a company based at Málaga TechPark.

Next, the Director of the Port Authority, José Moyano, introduced the port facility, highlighting the Port of Málaga as a driver of sustainability, innovation, digitalization, smart logistics chains, and also as a generator of business opportunities.

At the last part of the meeting, the potential collaboration models between both parties and the experiences and initiatives that can be implemented were discussed. This time, the protagonists were Pilar Fernández-Fígares, Manager of Málagaport, and Francisco Velasco, CTO of Innova IRV, the Ricardo Valle Institute of Innovation Foundation.

The alliance

The alliance launched by the Port Authority of Málaga, the MálagaPort Foundation, and Málaga TechPark aims to establish coordination and collaboration between all parties to achieve the development of a common collaboration model focused on carrying out joint R&D+i projects and entrepreneurship within the port’s service area, benefiting the Port Community.

Both parties thus become a common enclave to work together, promoting the creation of an interaction environment between activity, industry, and business, fostering research transfer and training within the park space, and transferring business and innovation activities developed by the park to the port space.
