Malaga TechPark and the city of Malaga met this morning at The Green Lemon building to pay tribute to Pepe Pérez Palmis, one of the driving forces behind the then-called Malaga TechPark. Thus, the building of the former Science and Technology Center (CCT) will be renamed “Edificio Pepe Pérez Palmis” in his honour, an agreement reached by the park’s Board of Directors in 2019.
Also, during the event, a painting with the portrait of Pérez Palmis which will remain in the building that now bears his name was unveiled.

The Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, has highlighted the figure of Pepe Pérez Palmis as a precursor of Malaga TechPark since the beginning of the Technological Malaga, so consolidated today. He has also highlighted the social commitment of Pérez Palmis to reduce the digital divide through the work done by the association ASIT. In this sense, de la Torre recalled the existing collaboration between the City Council and this entity through the donation of computer equipment and the development of projects of incursion into new technologies among families in Malaga.
For his part, the general manager of Malaga TechPark, Felipe Romera, has told the beginnings of the park and the ins and outs that were experienced in those years to get the technopolis to be international from the beginning, by managing to bring to Malaga the headquarters of the International Association of Science and Technology Parks, IASP. “Pepe was a key player in the birth of the place where we are today, although it is not so well known,” he said.
Pérez Palmis’ widow, Hannelore Benz, expressed her “enormous” gratitude for the recognition and assured her that her husband would be proud of this tribute.
About Pepe Pérez Palmis
Pérez Palmis was born in Murcia in 1932. He studied law and arrived in Malaga in 1975 as director of the delegation of Banco Exterior. But his greatest dedication and passion, which was accentuated after his retirement, went to the organization he founded and of which he was president until he died in 2018, the Association for Research and Technology (ASIT). This entity develops numerous development projects in La Palmilla, a neighborhood that Pérez Palmis always carried with him at all levels.
He was the first president of the Social Council of the University and, together with Felipe Romera and Luis Sanz, managed to get Malaga TechPark to host the headquarters of the International Association of Science and Technology Parks (IASP).
