The presentation of the book was held in the Eduardo Ocón hall of the Sala Unicaja de Conciertos María Cristina.
The book ‘Málaga, past and present of an industrial city’, published by Málaga TechPark and the Asociación en Defensa de las Chimeneas y el Patrimonio Industrial de Málaga (APIDMA) in collaboration with the Fundación Unicaja, was presented this Wednesday, May 5, in the Eduardo Ocón hall of the Sala Unicaja de Conciertos María Cristina.
Felipe Romera, general manager of Málaga TechPark; Francisco Cañadas, head of Publications and Awards of the Fundación Unicaja; Francisco José Rodríguez Marín, PhD in History and professor at the University of Málaga; Antonio Santiago Ramos and Antonio Guzmán Valdivia, both coordinators of the publication, introduced the book to those attending the event.
After an introduction by Francisco Cañadas, the director of Málaga TechPark, Felipe Romera, expressed his gratitude to APIDMA and the Fundación Unicaja, entities involved in supporting the creation of this book. In the same way, he congratulated the authors for synthesizing in this book in a very simple and visual way that ‘industry-city relationship’ that allows to understand how much of the economy of this city has developed in the last three centuries.
In the words of Antonio Santiago Ramos, this book, written by seven authors, aims to give an overview of how “a province joins and is part of the process of updating and revitalizing the economy”. During the celebration of the event, attendees were able to enjoy a short tour through the history of local industry, reviewing the names of its main protagonists and the different waves of innovation.

The Parque Tecnológico de Andalucía, now known as Málaga TechPark, is one of the most outstanding factors of the city of Málaga in the 21st century. Its more than 20,000 current jobs can be a parameter of the dynamism of the Andalusian city today. But Malaga has had other stages of outstanding industrial growth that has aroused admiration.
This book invites the reader through its seven chapters to retrace the history of industrialization in Malaga from the 19th century to the present day, in which the 25-year history of Malaga TechPark is narrated. The book, whose prologue is written by the Minister of Economic, Rogelio Velasco, under the title ‘Industrialization in Malaga, in historical perspective’, includes a text by Francisco José Rodríguez, president of APIDMA, entitled ‘Industrial city with different growth impulses, separated by moments of decline’.
