  • Over a hundred young people will benefit from this initiative, which will feature over three sessions until February

Malaga TechPark participates in the 7th Edition of the Science and Technology in feminine programme, which aims to promote science and technology vocation among female students. This initiative is organized alongside the Association of Science and Technology Parks in Spain (APTE)

The sessions organized by the park target students from the final years of Primary Education (5th and 6th grade) to all the grades in Secondary School. During these sessions, students will enjoy an educational experience that will allow them to immerse themselves in the world of technology and spark their interest in pursuing scientific and technological vocations.

Moreover, one of their goals is to reduce the gender gap in this sector. Students will be able to learn about “Women who changed the world”, an exposition that showcases the work of female scientists and technologists throughout history.

The sessions include presentations given by women working in member parks and working in science or technology fields. Three sessions have already been held in Málaga TechPark. The first presentation was given by Senior Software Engineering Manager in Vodafone, Eugenia Huertas; the second was given by Data Scientist in Accenture, Cristina Espejo, and the third was given by Beatriz Gadea, Aeronautical Engineer, and Cristina Collazos, IT Engineer, both in Aertec.

They will all narrate their personal experience as technologists and explain why did they decide to follow a career in STEM and how it has developed and been applied in the labour market. With the new year underway, additional sessions will be held, complementing the three already scheduled.

After the talks, two workshops will be held: one on robotics with Arduino and another focused on proposing innovative solutions to challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These workshops will be led by the Official College of Technical Communication Engineers of Andalusia (COITAOC) through the Andalusian Network of Robotics and Educational Technology.

During the sessions, students will receive illustrated guides: “What are disruptive technologies?” to introduce them to new technologies, and “What do I want to be when I grow up?” as a guide to help them choose STEM degrees.

It is expected that around a hundred young women will benefit from this initiative, with at least four sessions scheduled to take place between December, January, and February. This will be part of the ongoing edition, in which up to 21 science and technology parks, members of APTE, will participate.
