- Adif’s headquarters at the Málaga Technopolis is hosting two days of seminars focused on the FP2-R2DATO European project
This week, Málaga TechPark has become the epicenter of railway innovation. Adif’s headquarters in the park gathered experts and leaders from the European railway sector to work on the FP2-R2DATO project, a key initiative aimed at transforming train transportation through the digitalization and automation of railway operations.
The Deputy Director of Strategic Innovation at Adif opened the seminars, which took place over two days, on February 5th and 6th, at the mentioned location. He highlighted the institution’s commitment to innovation and the importance of this project for the future of railway transportation.
During the seminars, topics such as the innovation of new technologies in the revolution of the railway system were discussed, from train and schedule management to the automation of driving processes, signs, and traffic regulation. These improvements will allow for better use of current infrastructure, reduce waiting times, and enhance safety on the tracks.
In this regard, the project aims to address the major mobility challenges of the future: reducing carbon emissions, making travel faster and more efficient, and boosting freight transport by rail. These goals align with the European Union’s targets for 2030 and 2050, such as achieving carbon neutrality in short-distance travel and increasing the use of trains for freight.
FP2-R2DATO aims to develop more automated trains with advanced technologies, such as digitized traffic regulation systems, which will enable operations to be managed up to full automation (GoA4). These innovations promise to make railway transportation more sustainable, safer, and connected.
The event was attended by institutions such as Adif and Renfe, as well as entities like Ineco and Cedex, all part of this initiative. In short, the gathering strengthens Spain’s role in general, Málaga’s in particular, as a leader in the development of solutions that will not only improve rail transportation but also contribute to protecting the environment and making people’s lives easier. In this regard, Adif highlighted its relationship with Málaga TechPark through the Railway Technology Center (RTC) located within the park itself.
