Tamiza, the startup from Malaga that safeguards cybersecurity and digital sovereignty from Spain

  • The project was born within the Innova IRV Foundation in order to develop a shield against cyberattacks with the advantage that the information does not leave national territory

In a global digital landscape where cyberthreats know no borders, digital sovereignty has become an essential strategic asset for businesses, public entities, and end users. Protecting data and systems within the national territory, using proprietary technology and under a solid legal framework, is crucial to guarantee privacy, security and technological autonomy.

This is the context in which Tamiza is born. The startup from Malaga has developed a cybersecurity solution committed to digital sovereignty: a DNS shield that protects businesses, public entities and end users from cyberattacks, ensuring that the client’s information never leaves national territory.

This project has been developed in collaboration with the Innova IRV Foundation, the National Cryptologic Center (CCN), the University of Malaga and the Andalusian Digital Agency of Andalusia (ADA) and has already been successfully tested in the corporate network of the Junta de Andalucia, providing uninterrupted service to 150,000 computers.

Digital Sovereignty vs. Global Solutions: Tamiza’s differentiating value

Unlike other cybersolutions available in the market, that rely on foreign infrastructure and providers, Tamiza has opted for an approach that prioritizes digital sovereignty and protection focused on the threats affecting Spain:

Physical infrastructure located in Spain: Tamiza´s DNS servers are hosted in data centers located in Spanish territory, providing a redundant and highly available network, which ensures the physical security of data and compliance with national legislation.

Software developed and controlled in Spain, with full access to the source code: Tamiza develops its software entirely in Spain, only using open source components to which it has full access. This allows the company to ensure the security and transparency of the code, avoiding any technological dependency or risk of unauthorized access by third parties.

Protection focused on Spanish assets: Being developed and operated, Tamiza has greater visibility into the threats affecting the Spanish country. This enables it to identify and block attacks specifically targeting Spanish businesses, institutions, and users more effectively.

A local solution to a global problem

“In an increasingly digitized world, digital sovereignty has become a key element in ensuring security and strategic autonomy”, states Bernardo Quintero, founder of VirusTotal and Vice President of Cybersecurity at Innova IRV. “Tamiza offers an additional layer of protection specifically designed to face the threats that affect our environment the most. Being developed and hosted in Spain, this DNS shield has a greater visibility of what is happening in our surroundings and can offer a faster and more effective response than any generic solution”.

Tamiza´s DNS Shield: proactive protection and digital sovereignty

Developed with its own technology, Tamiza´s DNS Shield protects all internet-connected devices of an organization through a DNS server infrastructure with threat filtering. This system:

Blocks access to malicious web sites, addresses related to malware distribution, including ransomware, phishing, financial fraud, and other attacks.
Requires no software installation by the user, which facilitates its deployment and management.
It updates in real time, with special focus on nationally targeted threats, which ensures a more effective protection against the latest threats.

According to engineer and co-founder of Tamiza, Dario Guerrero: “This shield provides a proactive protection, blocking threats before they reach devices. Being hosted in Spain, company data does not leave national territory, which guarantees compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and reinforces the digital sovereignty of the country”.

With a simple and fast deployment that requires no hardware or software installation in the client’s network, Tamiza is the ideal solution for companies, public entities and end users to strengthen their cybersecurity and protect their digital sovereignty with Spanish technology.

About Tamiza

Tamiza Digital is a startup specialized in cybersecurity. Ever since its foundation, Tamiza has been mentored by Innova IRV Foundation, represented by Bernardo Quintero, founder of VirusTotal and Javier López Professor of Telematic Engineering at the University of Málaga (UMA). This mentoring has been fundamental in the design and development of its DNS filtering service.
