The Cybersecurity Cluster of Málaga expands regionally in Andalusia

  • The expansion is supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia through the Digital Agency of Andalusia (ADA).
  • The headquarters will be located at the Cybersecurity Centre of Andalusia, which is part of ADA.

The Cybersecurity Cluster of Málaga, jointly presented by Málaga TechPark, the University of Málaga and Google at the end of 2022, expands regionally in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. This expansion is supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía), through Raúl Jiménez, director of the Digital Agency of Andalusia (ADA). The headquarters will be located at ADA’s Cybersecurity Centre of Andalusia. The cybersecurity cluster is strategically aligned with the objectives of the Andalusian institution, becoming a tool that is key for the cybersecurity development in the region and for its positioning in Spain and in Europe.

At the third meeting of the companies that comprise this Cluster, Felipe Romera, from Málaga TechPark; Javier López, from the University of Málaga; Bernardo Quintero, from Google; and Enrique Rando, from the Digital Agency of Andalusia, gave all the details about this regional expansion. The meeting aimed at drawing up a clear map of the Cluster’s cross-cutting vision, as well as making it a tool for coordination and cooperation when tackling problems that can not be solved individually.

“The fact that the Cybersecurity Cluster of Málaga is part of the Andalusian Cybersecurity Centre is key to the expansion of this sector in the whole region, since Málaga hosts 80% of the cybersecurity companies in Andalusia,” highlighted Enrique Rando, technical advisor at the Centre. “The aim is to transfer knowledge to Andalusian companies while leaving the door open to other companies that are interested in the Cluster,” he added.

The progress made in the creation of the Cluster was also discussed in the meeting. They are currently drafting an almost-final version of the Cluster’s bylaws and internal regulations, so that an inaugural session can be held after the summer and they can start working on the Cluster’s activities thereafter, receiving funding from Europe and administrative support from the Cybersecurity Centre itself.

The meeting was attended by 30 companies.

The meeting was followed by the seminar “The Cybersecurity Centre of Andalusia. Addressing new challenges”, taught by Enrique Rando, organised by the Digital Eye Observatory and sponsored by the research group NICS Lab from the University of Málaga.

 Cybersecurity Cluster

The Cybersecurity Cluster, coordinated by the Digital Eye Observatory and Google, is an example of the commitment of Málaga’s socio-economic environment to Cybersecurity, which dates back to the 90s and which has not stopped growing favourably since then, both in the city and in the province, becoming one of the most active cybersecurity hubs in Spain.

The cluster’s objectives are:

  • Encouraging cooperation through joint actions that generate benefits.
  • Promoting the visibility and competitiveness of the members.
  • Boosting public-private collaboration with public administrations in the field of cybersecurity.
  • Raising awareness of the critical importance of cybersecurity throughout the economic and social fabric.
  • Promoting Málaga as a cybersecurity hub in Spain and internationally.
  • Collaborating with the University of Málaga and other entities for the training and generation of talent.
  • Creating initiatives to develop and strengthen the cybersecurity sector.
 About Digital Eye

The Digital Eye Observatory, jointly launched by Málaga TechPark and the University of Málaga through the Vice-Rectorate for Business, Territory and Digital Transformation, aims to help companies, organisations and institutions in the field of digital transformation. In this context, Digital Eye was created to integrate and concentrate efforts in this area, as well as perform actions of dissemination, promotion, training, advice and technological innovation in this area, leading to better strategic positioning and decision-making by companies and institutions related to the sector.

The activities carried out by the Observatory focus on four main objectives:

  • Being a meeting point to identify future trends, emerging technologies and their impact on the business fabric.
  • Acting as a core to generate valuable information for technological development.
  • Acting as a training point for continuous adaptation to the digital transition.
  • Actively promoting cutting-edge ideas and projects for technological development.
