The Hedy Lamarr Chair in Women and Technology recognises academic excellence with the Keysight grant

• The grant has been awarded to Lucía de Fátima Schröder, a student of the Master’s Degree in Acoustic Engineering

The Keysight grant for Excellence in Academic Performance awarded by the ‘Hedy Lamarr Chair in Women and Technology’ at the University of Málaga already has a winner: the student of the Master’s degree in Acoustic Engineering, Lucía Schoröder Antúnez, who received this recognition yesterday at a ceremony held at the School of Telecommunications, which was attended by its director Rafael Godoy.

This grant recognises the academic achievements of students that apply for Master’s degrees related to engineering at the University of Málaga. In the case of Schoröder Antúnez, she will complete her degree in Sound and Image Engineering.

“After years of academic dedication, I finally see my achievements being recognised, which motivates me even more to continue studying and researching,” said the grant winner, who pointed out how proud she is as an admirer of the work being done by the chair to encourage girls to pursue a career in technology.

The Keysight grant represents the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the field of technology. Keysight, in cooperation with other institutions and Málaga TechPark, actively supports the Hedy Lamarr Chair of the University of Málaga, whose main goal is to increase the participation of women in technology degrees in the University of Málaga.

“At Keysight, we believe that diversity is essential to boost innovation and progress in the technology industry,” claimed Natalia Magrans at the ceremony, director of Human Resources at Keysight. “Supporting outstanding students like Lucía is a way of cultivating female talent in STEM and ensuring that future generations of women have a solid position in this field,” she added.

The collaboration between Keysight and the Lamarr Chair of the University of Málaga is an example of how companies can cooperate with academic institutions to inspire more women to pursue technology degrees. “This grant represents a commitment to the inclusion of women in technology, as it is not only an academic award, but also an investment, so that the future of the technology industry is more diverse,” highlighted Bea Merchan, R&D Director and Site Manager at Keysight Málaga.

The Hedy Lamarr Chair, which covers the disciplines of Telecommunications, Industrial Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Málaga, is a “beacon of inspiration” for future female engineers. The Chair focuses on empowering women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The Lamarr Chair, which has been recently renewed for two more academic years, highlights the capability of women to innovate and contribute to technological development.
