The rector of the University of Málaga inaugurates the series of meetings of the Málaga TechPark Execs Club

  • During this meeting, held at the Unicaja Foundation Cultural Center, Teodomiro López shared his vision on the future of the UMA with the attendees

The rector of the University of Málaga, Teodomiro López, has inaugurated the series of meetings of the Málaga TechPark Execs Club at the Unicaja Foundation Cultural Center in the Episcopal Palace, following the agreement signed by both institutions to promote entrepreneurship. The meeting took place in a working breakfast format.

During the event, the rector shared his vision on the future of UMA with the attendees, as well as the relationship with Málaga TechPark. Javier de Pro, Director of the Financial Division of the Foundation and CEO of Fundalogy; Felipe Romera, Director of Málaga TechPark; and Antonio Gómez-Guillamón, President of the Málaga TechPark Execs Club, also took part in the meeting.

The main objective of this breakfast was to create a space to converse and exchange ideas. Thus, the rector began his speech by pointing out that the project initiated by UMA focuses on the people who make the institution work day by day: their knowledge, commitment, and work to improve society. With this premise in mind, the rector stated that the model is based on eight major strategic lines: teaching, research, transfer, equality, internationalization, culture, institutional relations, and sports.

Regarding the relationship between UMA and Málaga TechPark, the rector underlined the synergy demonstrated by both entities since 1992, with graduates being the best ambassadors to strengthen this relationship. “Our former students, now working or even leading some of these companies, are one of the best business cards for UMA, since they are an evidence of what we do and what we are capable of,” the rector stated.

Furthermore, he highlighted Málaga TechPark’s relationship with research groups with a technological profile and with those from other disciplines, since, as stated by the rector, “the future of technology is transversal and requires the support of all knowledge disciplines.”

During his speech, Teodomiro López also mentioned training and the degree offers in the ICT sector. Thus, he talked about the proposal to increase the number of new admissions at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, considering the aim to strengthen collaboration between Málaga TechPark and UMA, while also there is a huge demand for graduates in the technology sector.

The rector concluded his speech by highlighting the consolidated relationship between both entities and with the purpose of “strengthening and expanding this work to outline the future scenarios in the short, medium, and long term; at a time when demand is growing, and technology is more transversal and interdisciplinary than ever,” he emphasized.
