The Spanish Cancer Association and Málaga TechPark organise a new edition of the TauRun race for companies

  • The event will be held on 12 November and the proceeds from the registration fees will go to the fight against cancer

Málaga TechPark will host the new edition of TauRun, the race for companies, which will take place on Sunday 12 November and whose proceeds will go to the Spanish Cancer Association.

The announcement of the event was made last 17 October and was organised by the office of the Spanish Cancer Association in Málaga and by Málaga TechPark, with the collaboration of Málaga City Council. Furthermore, the race will be timed and supervised by the Andalusian Athletics Federation.

All proceeds from registration fees will fund the programs and services that the association provides for free to cancer patients and their families.

During the event’s announcement, Felipe Romera, general manager of Málaga TechPark, encouraged companies to participate in the race and to enjoy a fun family day at the technology park.

Moreover, Joaquín Morales Rubio, president of the Spanish Cancer Association office in Málaga, highlighted the great opportunity that the race offers the association to contact companies that care about health and cancer prevention. “We reach two main goals with this race: raising awareness of the importance of cancer prevention and healthy habits to reduce the risk of cancer; and making companies and their workers know about our Association and the free services that we provide, so that they are aware of the importance of their everyday help.”

About the race

The TauRun race is an initiative aimed at runners and sport enthusiasts working in companies at Málaga TechPark, as well as in companies that are not part of Málaga TechPark, professional associations, public institutions and associations. It was first named after the Tau number, which is two times Pi, as the result is the same number as the race distance: 6.28 km (3.9 miles).

However, there have been some changes this year. There will be two races — one race competition of 10 km (6.28 miles) and a five kilometre (5K) race (3.10 miles), which will not be timed and will be aimed at families and people who do not wish to compete.

The race route has been specially designed for the occasion. It will start from Plaza Alei, located in the technology park, and will continue on the different streets of the park.

The race has various categories and subcategories. Solo race: men and women; teams: men, women, mixed. There are three age categories: Junior, which is up to 29 years old; Senior, from 30 to 49 years old; and Master, over 50 years old.

There will be some activities such as jumping castles and zumba classes in addition to the races.

Registration is available until 11 November on the website Tau – Run (Race for companies | 2023| Málaga Málaga (contraelcancer.es). Solo races cost €10 per person, whereas teams have to pay according to the type of package they choose (gold, silver and bronze). Registration for the timed race includes fruit, a t-shirt and insurance for runners.

Moreover, the event organisers are open to any kind of collaboration or sponsorship with interested companies.
